History :
In 2006, members from the collective were invited for an exceptional residence / environmental workshop in Pekarna cultural center, in Maribor. The project has started on this occasion with the construction of a gallery of 2m x 2m x 2m, or small show room named La Vitrine.
After several exhibitions organised in this show room, the dynamic of the project required a bigger scale to evolve in and the collective involved the space of Hladilnica with a standing artistic programmation. Today La Vitrine became a global project which aims at developing initiatives in the field of visual art and beside it, actively participates with other associations to the cultural enrichment of Pekarna Kulturni Center.
Therefore collective La Vitrine works mainly in Pekarna Kulturni Center and runs the space of Hladinica, a space entirely renovated during july/august 2007 which is currently arranged in a 450m2 exhibition space and a 70m2 workshop/studio with all the needed equipment.
Since September 2007, this space hosts regularly exhibitions and artists in residence in parallel with the monthly exhibitions at La Vitrine show room.
This process is leaded by two main goals:
In order to fulfill this double ambition, members of the collective La Vitrine have developed a program which consists in 3 kinds of activities:
>>> A cultural events pole.
This many activities are leaded since 2006. It consists in the organization of contemporary art exhibitions and festivals. Most of this content takes place in Pekarna Kulturni Center, other sloven and abroad cultural places.
>>> A supportive and promotional pole.
Since 2006, many help actions are engaged in order to promote and diffuse the artists supported by La Vitrine not only in Slovenia but also in foreign countries among the professional art scene (galleries, museums and other cultural institutions). These kind of actions aims mainly at introducing these artists by establishing a link between other cultural structures.
This can be initiated through 2 different ways:
>>> A "residence for artists" pole.
This process enables young artists to professionalize themselves, by facilitating their production and by confronting them to professionals from contemporary art sphere as well. Also this program provides to the audience an (pedagogical) easy access to the different steps of art production through frequent meetings with the artist (from experimentation to exhibition steps).

Residence for artist in Hladilnica.
This program has started in November 2007.
La Vitrine works on the setting-up of a special art residences program which enables to make Pekarna Kulturni Center as a contemporary art research center.
This program consists of short-term (1 month) and long-term residences (6 months).
La Vitrine aims to adapt its point of view to artists’ needs. Plus there is no performance obligation which means the artists invited only come to work and search. But they may also put up an exhibition.
This program is quite informal. That means the residences are not scheduled regularly. They depend on matching of desire of artists and La Vitrine.

Otto-Residences.
This project consists in organizing three artistic residencies in Marseille (France) and in Maribor (Slovenia); in other words three times of residence will be organized, in which an eastern-European artist will be invited in Marseille and a western-European artist will be invited in Maribor.
The residencies would be crossed twice a year in inter season (end of summer/beginning of fall and spring). Each exchange would last 28 days; the first residence is scheduled between June 18 and July 14th. The second cycle will take place from the end of September to the end of October 08, and the third and the last one would be take place from the end of April to the end of May 2009.
This project is on French Association Otto-Prod’s initiative and la Vitrine Collective, and is co-produced by the Slovene association Pekarna Magdalenske Mreže and the French association Sextant et Plus.
The basic idea is to create a research and artistic production time, and so to allow some artists to comprehend the European dimension and its new contextualization through artistic activities.
